Detyens Shipyards, Inc.has been awarded a three ship contract for the dry docking and repairs for the CAPE RACE, CAPE RISE, and CAPE RAY by Keystone Shipping of Bala Cynwyd, PA. The three ROS vessels are home-ported in Portsmouth, VA and belong to MarAds Ready Reserve Fleet.
The CAPE RACE arrived for dry docking in early June,2004. The vessel is scheduled to be on dock approximately 21 days. The CAPE RISE will then arrive for a 35 day availability. After the completion of the other two ships, the CAPE RAY will follow in early August for what is expected to be 35 days. All three vessels will have extensive steel repairs accomplished in various levels and in the ballast tanks, as well as shaft and rudder removals, stabilizer work, tank cleaning and coating, and crane overhauls.
Keystone Shipping also manages the USNS LCPL ROY M. WHEAT, the conversion of which was completed at Detyens Shipyards last year. This will bring the total to eight dry dockings accomplished for Keystone at Detyens since 1999.
