DREDGE PROJECTS
Detyens Completes Repair Period For Dredge Texas
Detyens Shipyards recently completed a significant dry docking and repair period for dredging major, GLDD. Following the completion of its contract near Wilmington, NC, the Cutter Suction Dredge Texas arrived at the shipyard. Beginning in early December, 2003, this work completed at Detyen’s Cooper River facility, utilizing one of its three large graving docks.
Beyond typical dry docking items, the project included: complete blast and coating of U/W hull, main deck, and dredge ladder; refurbishment of accommodation areas; repairs to dredge gear box, stern swivel, and dredge pump; complete disassembly and overhaul of traveling block assembly; renewal of trunnion assemblies; replacement ladder suction and discharge piping.
Under direct supervision of project manager, Larry Reynolds, the project demonstrated the flexibility and resourcefulness that Detyens Shipyards has become known for. This project involved the coordination of numerous crafts and sub-contractors, as well as utilization of a graving drydock, wet berth, overhead cranes, and Detyens' extensive shop facilities and equipment.
