CRUISE LINES
Celebrity Cruise Lines has completed its first ever dry docking with Detyens Shipyards, Inc (DSI). ZENITH docked at the Charleston, SC facility from October 24, 2005 through November 3, 2005. DSI project manager, Tim Sanford, said, “It was a small time frame for their availability, everyone involved with the docking did an excellent job and they should all be commended.”
Ship superintendent, James Infinger, who has worked several cruise ship jobs for DSI explained, We all knew that the availability was only 10 days and we had to work around the clock to make sure our client left the yard on time and happy with the work performed.” The scope of work included: regular dry docking maintenance along with sea valve renewals, blade seals and polishing, anchor chains, bow and stern thruster seals, overhauling of the bow thruster, the dismantling and overhauling of the stabilizers, the application of the silicon bas AF coatings, the demolition and installation of a new hot well and a new shaft, and bushing for the port rudder fin.
Nikolaos Doulis with Celebrity Cruise Lines Technical Department and the port engineer during the dry docking said, “Everybody that was involved in the dry dock of Zenith was very motivated, friendly and more than welcome to accommodate all our needs. The service we received from the shipyard not only met but far exceeded my expectations. Throughout the duration of the dry dock, every matter was handled with true professionalism. This dry dock was an opportunity for you to prove yourselves as a shipyard and I must admit that you certainly did.”
