Detyens Shipyards, Inc. Awarded Six Ships From Tropical Shipping
July 11, 2005 Tropical Shipping, the largest containerized cargo carrier in the Caribbean region has awarded Detyens Shipyards (DSI) in Charleston, SC six vessels from their current fleet. Work on the ships will take place during the 2005/2006 calendar year. Work on the ships range from scheduled routine maintenance to the fabrication of a new Ro/Ro ramp.
“Tropical has been a great customer,” says DSI company president Loy Stewart, Jr. He continued, “We have established a good working relationship over the years with Tropical port engineers and management. We look forward to their dockings in Charleston.”
Laurin Maritime Completes First Repair With Detyens Shipyards Inc.
Based in Houston, Texas Laurin Maritime has completed their first repair with Charleston, SC based Detyens Shipyard, Inc. (DSI). The Farandole, which trades in the Caribbean and along the East Coast of the United States called on DSI for an emergency ship repair to the port shell between the 6P tank and the slop tank. DSI’s emergency response team was able to repair the ship's damage and have her ready to depart 24 hours ahead of schedule.
“We traditionally don’t dock in the US,” said Per Asander with Laurin Maritime. He continued, “I was very pleased with the overall performance of the shipyard and , in particular the hull department. Laurin Maritime group operates 16 chemical and oil tankers in world-wide trade as agents for Anglo-Atlantic Steamship Company Limited.
